Fred J. Johnson (First Generation)
1880 - 1942
Fred J. Johnson was born four miles southeast of Harvard, Nebraska. His parents were farmers, as was Fred, during his younger years. By 1918, Fred developed an interest in designing and building his own home - a very impressive, two-story structure near his birth place. This same year, he purchased hardware stores in Edgar, Davenport, and Ong, Nebraska. In 1926, Fred purchased a lumber yard and hardware store in Clarks, Nebraska. In 1932, Fred organized a Lumber Co. in Hastings. During these years he contracted or supplied materials for many building projects in south central Nebraska.
